DT Applied provides school teachers with resources to support the teaching of industry-relevant DT skills and dispositions, and information for students about the breadth of career opportunities in the technology sector.

In collaboration with Accenture, AWS, Commonwealth Bank, and Telstra we have developed resources to address four key applied technology skills that are in demand in the workplace, and that are requirements of the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies for students.

Four classroom activities will be released over 2022 and 2023. These will include online and unplugged components covering the following topics:

  • Design Thinking
  • User Interfaces/User Experience (UI/UX)
  • Data Analytics
  • Cloud Computing

Design Thinking Mix-in

The first DT Applied Challenge introduces Design Thinking, a set of techniques and processes for solving problems. It introduces key design thinking concepts, including ideation, failing fast, prototyping, user testing and evaluation, and iteration, as well as the skills and dispositions students need to be great design thinkers, such as empathy, open-mindedness, and resilience to failure.

Thanks to our collaborators all DT Applied resources are free for Australian students.

UI/UX Design

The second DT Applied Challenge introduces UX/UI Design, the process of prototyping, designing, and creating your own mobile interfaces. It introduces some of the key basics of design, including understanding the user, prototyping with wireframes, and putting good design principles into practice to build your own digital interfaces.

Data Analytics

Data Analytics is the 3rd instalment in the DT-Applied courses. It introduces students to the world of Data Analytics. Students will discover how data can be used to understand their world, how data can be used as evidence to solve problems, and how to analyse and visualise data. This challenge will address the data representation, collection, and interpretation of content.

Introduction to Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing is the 4th installment of the DT Applied course. This course offers students practical experience using APIs. They will use the Python programming language to access and manipulate data obtained from the cloud in the form of JSON documents. Students will be introduced to cloud computing technologies and the impact they have on the day-to-day life of businesses and individuals.
